Why we love Mr. Stapler

One in a continuing series.

Mr. S: "Did you see that there's some controversy about a picture of a breastfeeding mother on the cover of a parenting magazine?"

Suebob: "Mmmm, Motherhood, yeah."

Mr. S: "Motherrrrrrrhood. That's it. It was on the news and some woman was saying she was appalled. I found it and showed it to 2 people at work. One said he didn't care and the other was appalled. Appalled? What is wrong with these people? It's not sexual content. I mean..."

Suebob: It's ok for other magazine covers to show women with their skirts up to their heez and their plastic boobs covered with 2-inch wide fabric strips..."

Mr. S: "Yeah. And this...It is someone EATING. It is a baby. It is the most natural human thing on earth. If people can't get that, if they can't get past that it is a breast, God help us all. I mean seriously. If they can't get past that, we have no hope. No hope."

God help us all - in-frickin-deed.

Everytime that I think of this my head threatens to explode.

Because that's the first thing that springs to mind when I whip out the old boob to nurse the baby - let me see how many men I can entice with this. I mean, I smell like eau de baby puke, I haven't had more than three hours sleep in a row since god knows when, my hair needs to be washed and I no longer just have bags under my eyes, I have a 24pc set of luggage. Men will be flocking to me.

God help us indeed, Mr. Stapler.

Wow. I love Mr. Stapler, too.

It's refreshing for a man see the boob for what it actually is.

This whole debacle makes me so angry...I can't even discuss it rationally.

Firebomb.

Not Mr. Staplerof course, he's a good boy. But if only we could get these anti-eating activists together in a room...

p.s. my word verification is fktox. I feel like that fits, somehow.

Ugh, I saw the cover in question while I was at BlogHer. People are idiots. Like you said, the covers of Maxim and FHM are regularly trying to titilate us to the nth degree, but a picture of breastfeeding is outrageous?

I always thought America was so forward-thinking until I lived in England for a few years. Yeah, now I know that I'm supposed to freak out about breasts. A lot.

THANK YOU, Mr. Stapler! "It is someone EATING" is the best comment I've heard about that magazine cover. My God, Britney Spears posed completely naked on the cover of Harper's Bazaar! This was a PARENTING magazine.

What confounds me is that while even companies that make baby formula use slogans like "the breast is best", and the American Academy of Pediatricians says all babies should be breastfed, it is considered socially unacceptable to do in many places. What are nursing mothers supposed to think? It's okay to breastfeed! Just don't actually expose any part of your breast while doing it! Freakin' ridiculous.

Mr. S is awesome, as is your use of the word "heez." Oh, I shall have to adopt that. You guys rock!

I'm lovin' Mr. Stapler, too!

Argh. This whole thing is upsetting. I'm so glad the mommy blogosphere is so upset about it. I believe that words make a difference. C'mon, people! Breastfeeding is natural!

Suzanne - heez is my new all-purpose fill-in-the-blanks you-already-know-what-I'm-talking- 'bout word.

I stole it from this article: http://www.nytimes.com/2006/07/23/magazine/23wwln_language.html?ex=1311307200&en=c976ae398b3beafb&ei=5090&partner=rssuserland&emc=rss
where it is used totally differently but whatever. The language is my playground.
